Is 2034 the ultimate Watchtower date?
by cultswatter ina recent wacktower had hinted that the year 2034 would be the final date for armaggedon.
if armageddon has not arrived by 2035 then will the wts close shop for good or will they simply accuse the past presidents of apostacy and regroup to form another daughter of the tower offshoot baseless religion?.

Magnum,
Bugbear, do you have any book recommendations? Anybody else?
A good book on the subject of the Exodus is William Stiebing's Out of the Desert.
It's based on the premise that there was an exodus from Egypt but that only a few thousand "Hebrews" were part of it not over a million like the Bible states.

LisaRose,
So far in testing of self driving cars, there have been eleven accidents in 1.7 million miles, none due to the fault of the self driving cars. I like those odds.
1.7 million miles sounds a little suspicious to me. They would need to have tested something like 17 cars for 100,000 miles each.

truthseeker,
What if a large plastic bag is blowing in the wind in front of you and activates that feature?
"Well I guess you would brake and the bag would blow by."
A plastic bag could easily hit the front of your car below the hood and stay there until you're parked. Such involuntary application of the brakes could cause an accident if there is a car behind you going at high speed.

No, I don't trust that technology at all. Especially the feature where your brakes are automatically activated because the car's radar shows your car is getting too close too fast to the car in front of you. What if a large plastic bag is blowing in the wind in front of you and activates that feature? -

Is it possible to use this thread to compile watchtowers Armageddon illustrations
by jambon1 ini was informed today by a jw that the watchtower doesn't use images and propaganda to instil fear.
i would really like to see a compilation of all their armageddon illustrations.
maybe a thread or web page already exists that had this content.. the one i am really wanting is the most recent picture of the witnesses in the basement during the tribulation.. this will be a massive help so thank you..

I would not recommend the use of any illustration which illustrates people coming out of any destroyed areas unharmed. This could be misinterpreted by the public as any general post apocalypse sci-fi movie where ordinary people are fleeing in safety. People will just shrug it off.
The illustrations in the children's books shows ordinary people dying and in direct danger of their lives. One of the books actually shows a woman holding a dead child in her arms.

SimonSays, "What if someone proved 607BC to be a viable date through secular history, what then."
The 607 year issue is not the only broken link on the chain. Their weak points are:
- The 2520 year period based on the assumption of 360 days per year. Neither Babylon nor the Hebrews used that type of calendar.
- The comparison between Nebuchadnezzar's insanity during those 7 years after which his sanity returned. How could that be considered a prophecy where the insanity of the nations is supposed to have gotten worse, not better? However, that was somewhat consistent with their initial 1914 teaching which stated that the Millennium would start on 1914 bringing sanity to the world after those symbolic 'times'.
So go ahead and prove that point since nothing that has happened in the past 137 years fulfills any historical events.

truthseeker100, I wasn't in during the 1990s but I think it was around 1995 when the Watchtower did its first major revision on the 1914 issue. This was, if I'm not mistaken, before the overlapping generations teaching.

I think we should focus not on the 607BCE issue but rather on their different views of 1914 in the past 130 years. As Simon says no one wants to do the math.
Here are the basic metamorphosis that 1914 went through:
!) The end was a period of time from 1799 to 1914. Armageddon was a 40 year period between 1874 and 1914 which was supposed to have been a period of social anarchy. The Millennium would begin in 1914.
The earthquakes, famines and wars predicted in Matthew 24 were fulfilled in the past 1800 years (from the point of view in the late 1880s) since that prophecy was made.
2) Then, sometime after that failed to come about, they said that the end would occur within the lives of those who witnessed the events of 1914.
Throughout the 1970s to early 1990s the age of reason of those who witnessed the events of 1914 was considered to be young adults. But later they shrunk the age down to children but indicated that infants were included. When that failed they changed that to infants born in 1914.
3) Now we got the "overlapping generations".
